Coimbatore’s first Disabled Friendly Mobility Van

Swarga Foundation is proud to launch ‘SARATHI’, Coimbatore’s first wheelchair accessible transportation service. SARATHI will provide safe, convenient and reliable commutes for any individual with a mobility impairment or senior citizens to any location of choice within and outside the city. The interiors of the van has been redesigned to accommodate one wheelchair, two independent seats, a 6” x 2” long sofa bed and a chemical toilet with a swivel seat. The driver has been trained and sensitized to assist wheelchair users. The wheelchair is pushed up a foldable ramp placed in the rear of the vehicle. SARATHI currently has one van in service and is available 7 days a week.

Soon, Differently-Abled Can Avail Rail Travel Concessions Online – RAIL BUDGET 2016

Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said that for Divyang (differently-abled), the railways have introduced one-time registration for availing concessions while booking tickets online, online booking of wheelchairs and Braille-enabled new coaches.

He said that at least one disabled-friendly toilet on all platforms in A1-class stations will be built in the next financial year.

Wheelchair-friendly taxi services in INDIA

Meru Enable launched a wheelchair-accessible taxi service in Mumbai this month. In Bengaluru, KickStart runs a cab service to cater to those who use wheelchairs. Soon Umoja will launch the Goa’s first wheelchair-friendly taxi.
